Full-length Explosion
I’m gonna have to do a little back-tracking to start this blog out. So here is some stuff from the last few weeks that will melt your face.
GLITCH MOB///DRINK THE SEA

First up, the new Glitch Mob album. West Coast future-beats from 3 veteran badmen and a whole lot of slappy, big-room bass. Lashings of crazy synth freak-outs and a liberal dash of 8-bit sounds that make you yearn for your solitary, painfully nerdy days playing Zelda in your room (or was that just me?) complete the experience. A little more song-structured/accessible than previous, but eargasmic all the same. But I’m a sucker for stuff that I can put on and not have all the girls cock their heads like they were the RCA dog (greatest commercial actor of all time, that dog)
Just in time for hazy LA summer barbecues… and hippie-plagued 50 degrees and sunny days at Dyke Beach (oh, beloved Dolores Park, I miss thee) for my SF brethren
Full album streaming on their site right hurr
Some tracks to get the juices flowing right n’ya:
Bad Wings///Booming
Drive it Like You Stole it///The lead-single, methinks(?). Umm, glitter-thump comes to mind here. Yeah, that’s a genre now. I coin it
Between Two Points///Nice Female vocals and ring-y melodies on zis one. These are a few of my favorite things
GUIDO///ANIDEA

If you’re like me- and you probably wanna be like me- this album will make you mess yourself. Listen at home the first go ’round, because it can get pretty embarrassing in public, trust. This is probably the best complete work I’ve heard in a long time (besides Broken Social Scene’s new album, but that’s not even what this blog is about). This stays on repeat.
Hailing from Bristol, UK, the hotbed of wonky future-beats from producers like Joker and Gemmy (and many more), Guido has surpassed- in my mind- pretty much everybody else from the “Purple Brizzle” sound (whoever came up with that name was for sure smoking purple at the time) with this. Out on Punch Drunk, the venerable Peverelist’s imprint (check the catalogue HERE), Anidea is synth-soaked beat madness. Orchestral Lab and Mad Sax have been out for a while so I’ve been impatiently awaiting the album drop. Allah sez cop it NOW!
Little happy pills-
Mad Sax///The greatest use of a saxophone since Gerry Rafferty’s ‘Baker Street’ (look it up, dullard)
Beautiful Complication///Cross-over hit of the millennium?
Way U Make Me Feel ft. Yolanda///If you got any closer to Michael Jackson, your pants would be off (too soon?)
On to the Next One…
